For many businesses, one of the best ways to retain customers and ensure they feel valued is to use discount codes. With Create's discount codes you can offer either a fixed price or percentage off from the customer's purchase, however with the following options, you can now choose more detailed specifications for their use. For example, you can specify that it can only be used once or used only for customers spending over £20. In this guide we will be looking at the following:

• How to apply a minimum spending amount to your discount code
• How to apply a maximum spending amount to your discount code
• How to apply a maximum limit to the discount
• How to limit the usage of your discount code
• How to apply a discount code to specific products

How to apply a minimum spending amount to your discount code

If you would only like customers who spend over a certain amount to be able to use your discount code you can set this up by following these steps:

1. Click Shop from the Top Menu
2. Select Discount Codes from the left-hand menu
3. Click Add Discount Code
4. Add the required information, such as discount name and code
5. In the Minimum order amount box add the amount you wish to be the least a customer has to spend to use your discount code
6. Click Add Discount Code

For discount codes that you may already have set up, you can also add this information by selecting the Edit pencil icon next to your discount code in the Discount Codes area. 

How to apply a maximum spending amount to your discount code

Alternatively, if you would only like customers who spend under a certain amount to be able to use your discount code please follow these instructions:

1. Click Shop from the Top Menu
2. Select Discount Codes from the left-hand menu
3. Click Add Discount Code
4. Add the required information
5. In the Maximum order amount box add the amount you wish to be the most a customer can spend to use your discount code
6. Click Add Discount Code

Again, you can change this information for existing discount codes by selecting the Edit pencil icon next to your discount code in the Discount Codes area.

How to apply a maximum limit to the discount amount

In certain scenarios, you may want to offer a percentage discount but only up to a total discount amount. For example, 50% up to a total discount of £5.00 off. This is sometimes also known as a Maximum Redemption Value. To set this up please follow these instructions:

1. Click Shop from the top menu
2. Select Discount Codes from the left-hand menu
3. Click Add Discount Code
4. Fill out the Discount Name and Discount Code fields
5. Select Percentage as the Type of discount (Maximum discount amount is only available with this type of discount)
6. Enter the percentage amount you would like to offer as a discount in the Discount Amount field
7. Enter the amount you would like to cap the discount at in the Maximum Discount Amount field
8. Click Save Changes when you have finished creating your discount code.

How to limit the usage of your discount code

If you are running a special promotion or are offering your discount code as a prize you may want to limit the number of times this code can be used. To do this please follow these steps:

1. Click Shop from the top menu
2. Select Discount Codes from the left-hand menu
3. Click Discount Code
4. Add the required information
5. Choose Yes on the Limit Usage drop-down list
6. Add the number of times you would like this discount code to be used in the Limit box
7. Click Add Discount Code

How to apply a discount code to specific products

With this option, you can attach a discount code to an individual product or to multiple products in your shop. To set this up please follow these steps:

1. Click Shop from the top menu
2. Select Discount Codes from the left-hand menu
3. Click Add Discount Code
4. Add the required information
5. Change Apply discount for specific products? to YES
6. Search for your product in the list and select the green tick in the box next to it. The selected product will then move to the right side of the list
7. Click Add Discount Code

Please note: the discount will only apply to these individual products when in the basket, not the total of the basket.
As with all of the discount code options, these can be used in conjunction with every other option, which means you can provide very specific discounts.

For example, you could set up "buy 3 products from a group and as long as it is over £50 for a 25% discount!". This is perfect for any special promotions or offers you want to run for your customers.
