You may have heard about the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCC) and the new rules around price transparency.

The good news is that most Create customers won't need to make any major changes to their website. The main principle is simply that customers should be given clear and accurate information about the total cost of what they're buying, including any unavoidable fees or charges.

For example, if a delivery charge can't reasonably be calculated until a customer provides their address, you should make it clear alongside the product price that an additional delivery charge will apply and explain how that charge is calculated.

A new way to add extra information to your products

To help with this, we've introduced a new Product Custom Text Field.

This allows you to add your own short message to individual products, or apply the same message across all of your products. You could use it to provide additional information such as:

"Postage will be calculated at checkout based on your delivery address."

or

"Delivery charges are calculated based on your location and order weight."

It's completely up to you how you use the feature, but it gives you another simple way to provide customers with clear information about pricing and delivery.

You can find out how to set this up in our help guide: How To Add A Custom Text Field To Products

As always, the exact information you need to provide will depend on how you operate your business, what you sell and who you sell to. If you're unsure about your individual legal obligations, we'd recommend seeking independent professional advice.

A note on VAT

If you sell to consumers, your advertised prices will generally need to include VAT where VAT is applicable. Businesses selling exclusively to other businesses may be able to advertise prices excluding VAT, but this should be made clear to customers.

The important thing is that your customers should be able to understand the price they're being shown and what they will ultimately be expected to pay.

We're continuing to look at ways we can make this easier for Create customers as these requirements develop.
