What are MX records?

A mail exchanger record (or MX record) is a record linked to your domain name which specifies which mail servers are responsible for accepting emails.

This means you can have an email address linked to your domain name, but hosted somewhere other than with your domain name's registrar.

If your domain name is registered with us and you wish to purchase email hosting from another company, we can update your MX records to link this new email account with your Create domain name.

However, don't forget that any domain name registered with Create comes with email forwarding absolutely free. This means that you can have email @yourdomainname.co.uk which will be automatically re-directed to a single existing email address of your choice, such as a Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo address.

You can find out more about this in our help guide.
