How To Add Alt And Title Tags To The Images On Your Site

The alt and title tags associated with your images are used to give information about that image to both humans and is important for Search Engine Optimisation.

An alt tag, or alternative text, is the text that will displayed to assist visually impaired users or generally if the image can’t load for some reason, and is also used by Search Engines to understand this type of content. The alt text should describe the content of the image accurately, but not be too long.

The image title offers advisory information about that image. It is displayed in a “tool tip” when you hover your cursor over the image. The search engines do not read this, but it may be helpful to your website's visitors.

When uploading an image to the "Images" area of your account, the filename of your image will be used as your image's title by default. You can change this by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Create account
  2. Click on "Content" on the Top Menu
  3. Click "Images" in the left hand menu
  4. Click the Image Settings icon next to the image you would like to edit
  5. Write the image title in the "Image name" box
  6. Click "Save" to save your changes.

To add an alt tag to an image, it will first need to already be placed on one of your web pages. You can then add an alt tag using the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Create account
  2. Click "Content" on the Top Menu
  3. Click "Edit" (the pencil icon) on the page containing your image
  4. Hover over the Image and select the 'Image Settings' icon from the toolbar that appears.
  5. Add a brief description of your image in the "Alt Text" box.
  6. Click "Done" then "Save"!

You can also add an alt tag to your product images:

  1. Click "Shop" on the Top Menu
  2. Locate the product you wish to add the alt tag to and click the landscape icon on the product
  3. Click the pencil icon on your image and add your alt tag!
