What can we say about Rhodesian of Edinburgh? This Mother and Daughter team Katrina & Charlotte founded the company in early 2014 and have not looked back!

Their ethos is to make gorgeous leather goods that last a lifetime. The bags are crafted using traditional skills, and all start life as drawings which are then transferred to paper and stapled together. This detailed way of creating the designs ensures that they're functional as well as beautiful and ... we can't get enough of them!

Rhodesian of Edinburgh also support British manufacturing and charity is a huge part of what they stand for.

We caught up with Katrina to find out more about their brand, getting started and what the future has in store for them.

Hi Katrina, thanks for being our Customer Showcase this month! First things first, why did you found the company?

Charlotte my daughter became unwell and it became apparent a standard 9-5 job would not be an option for her so we started looking at what businesses would be viable as she lives with permanent headaches which affect her sleep pattern hugely. After one of the many disappointing appointments I decided it would be an idea to go to the cat and dog home and so we came back with a beautiful little Rhodesian puppy which turns out to have been the best medicine she could have hoped for, they have been inseparable ever since and hence the company was called Rhodesian.

You have been running for just over a year, any advice for start ups?

Don’t cut corners and seek as much professional advice as you can afford, it really will benefit you in the long term.

We love your branding, especially your logo and colour scheme! Is this something you gave a lot of thought on before you created your website and, if so, how did you go about starting out?

We gave our logo and colour scheme a lot of thought. It took us a few months of just playing around with ideas and just seeing what we thought would work. The colour scheme we really were not sure about, we were fortunate enough to have a lot of help from a friend who is a blogger but also a website designer, so we were quite lucky.

What do you find works best when promoting your business on social media?

We are still getting the hang of social media, I would say people are more interactive on Twitter and it is definitely the platform we prefer when interacting with our customers. Everyone loves a competition and its a great way to get feedback and speak to people.

How has Create helped you?

It was really important to us that we found a UK company for our website. Create offers a free 30 day trial which gives you a chance to try before you buy which is something we were quite keen to find in a website builder, they also don't hold you to any contracts, they offer a monthly or yearly subscription on their packages and if you want to cancel you can at any time.

The website builder is great for first time users there are plenty of templates to choose from with more being added all the time. As a whole the website builder is extremely customizable and really allows the user to build the website they want the way they want. The Help Guides have been invaluable and clearly breakdown section by section how to build a website, if you have any questions that you can't find the answer to in the Help Guides your account manager is always on hand to keep you on the right path.

Our Account Manager and her support has been invaluable; we can always reach her in a timely fashion allowing us to make changes to the website quickly.

Create's willingness to help goes above and beyond what I expected from a website host, they have a great attitude and nothing is ever too much trouble. Thank you for enabling us to make our online business the best it could be.

What is next for your business?

Who knows what the future holds? It's all incredibly exciting! We have some exciting events on the horizon...but I’m afraid we are not allowed to say anything about them at the moment, keep an eye on our social media for updates!

We can't wait to see what is up next for you. Thanks for chatting to us Katrina!
