In the currently challenging economic climate, free business events are a fantastic way to find a wealth of opportunity, information and advice to help you grow your small business.

1 - The Business Startup Show

The self-proclaimed ‘fastest growing business exhibition in Europe’, The Business Startup Show is part of The Great British Business Show and takes place across two days in London, it features some impressive celebrity entrepreneur speakers in its lineup.

The Business Startup 'Zone' features everything from talks on personal growth to masterclasses on the impact of Brexit on UK businesses. Whatever stage you’re at, there are talks to suit every industry and level of experience.

This year’s event takes place next week and features seminars from speakers like Hilary Devey CBE, former Dragon on BBC’s Dragon’s Den, Oliver Cookson, founder of MyProtein and GoNutrition and Mark Wright, winner of BBC’s The Apprentice.

2 - The Business and IP Centre

The Business and IP Centre at the British Library in St Pancras is a fantastic place to find first-rate events and workshops for your small business - many of them free or low cost.

There are free events covering everything from the very beginning of running a business - how to do market research, the basics of social media marketing - to how to navigate the more complex technicalities once your business is up and running - an introduction to licensing laws, advice on registering a limited company etc.

There’s always lots going on at the British Library - make sure you book in advance to ensure you get a place. If you can’t physically make it to the library, you can register for one of the library’s regular business & IP webinars.

3 - She Means Business 

As part of a series celebrating women in business, all over the country Enterprise Nation are hosting She Means Business talks on the first Wednesday of each month, featuring a different successful female entrepreneur discussing the challenges of running your own business. 4 - Chew the Fat

‘Designed to stimulate, motivate and inspire’, Chew the Fat is a friendly and informal series of discussions and speeches from motivational speakers and successful entrepreneurs,  hosted by global startup events organiser 3Beards. This low-key event has taken the small business world by storm for its friendly approach to business, attracting prestigious guests like marketing genius Guy Kawasaki who was one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh marketing team in 1984.
